I've never really had a problem with Hayden Panettiere, aka Claire Bennett on Heroes. I mean yea, the whole dating a guy 13 years older than you thing is kinda creepy, even if he is the delicious Milo Ventimiglia (aka Peter Petrelli. he's 31 and she's 18), but I can look past that. She's lost it for me now though. Claire Bear has fallen into that dreadful celebrity pitfall and is trying to sing. There's even a music video. It's painful to watch and hear and fantastically boring, but I'll share it with you anyways because I might have piqued your curiosity.

I don't understand why people embarass themselves like that. I mean, she's a pretty decent actress and Heroes is a fantastic show. I guess when you consider the competition though, anyone can feel like they have a shot at a music career.

work it

hi all! it's been a while since the last post, mostly because nothing very blog-worthy has been going on. though I'm not really sure what makes something blog-worthy. people can write about whatever minute crappy detail of life they want.

anyways! since you've last heard from me, work has basically consumed my life. I kind of like it though, and I definitely like it more than being in school. going back this sept. is really going to suck.

I'd been meaning to blog a bit every week about all the funny little incidents that happen during my days at the store (it is capitol hill after all, you inevitably run into a few characters everyday), but I just plum forgot. but here are a few highlights that I do remember:

- our shipments mostly come in these blue containers (totes, we call them) and while most of the time they are organized by their contents, we occasionally come across one that is mysterious labeled "mixed." ok, so it's not that mysterious because you just open it up to see what's inside, but it's annoying to run around the whole store stocking things from one tote. well the other day I got a mixed tote and it was mostly filled with lube. yup! that kind of lube. but since it was mixed, there was something else in there, and this just happened to be lip gloss. now normally this wouldn't matter, but this tote also happened to have a spill in it. not a huge one, but enough to get all over the lip glosses. but since there really wasn't anything wrong, I just wiped it off and stuck it on the shelf. happy puckering!

- my favorite department in the store is photo. there's just something I like about going through the motions of the developing process. that, and it's fun to look at people's pictures and judge them. my first day in the photo lab, the supervisor went on break and left me to fend for myself for 15 minutes. while she was gone, a girl came in with 7 disposable cameras and 3 memory cards. she wanted prints of EVERYTHING. and she asked if we could have them done in an hour. ha. well we spent the rest of the day finishing up her stuff. she had over 1,000 prints and it cost nearly $300. she still hasn't come in to pick them up though, almost a month later.

- a man came in today and asked where the first aid things were. I instinctively walked him over to aisle 6D to show him and he said I'd probably have to grab things off the shelf for him. I looked over at him and just then realized that he was pinching his finger with a blood-soaked napkin around it. I asked him how deep the cut was so we could figure out what he needed, and he didn't hesitate to remove the napkin and show me this gouge in his left index finger. I could barely see it with all the blood pooling around it. so I grabbed him gauze and tape, walked with him to the cash register, had to take his wallet out of his pocket to get him credit card, walked him to the men's room, held the door open with my foot while unwrapping his gauze and ripping some tape and helped him fix his owie. I would call that good customer service to say the least. and good thing blood does not freak me out, because my goodness there was a lot of it!

Tomorrow will be slightly boring. a half day in the morning and then a managers' meeting at the district office in the afternoon. blah. but I still get a kick out of seeing so many of those blue shirts in one room. I am still wearing mine right now actually. it's been a long day.

I'll try to update more often!

boys & girl

It's not unusual to find that I'm the only girl hanging out with a group of friends. There are lots of reasons as to why this is, but that's not the point of today's post. My latest pondering is this: one of the guys, or token girl?

I think it's more fun to think of myself as the former, but I'm probably the latter. But then again, there's always that cop out answer of being a bit of both.

To be honest though, I don't think I'd really enjoy being one of the guys. I mean, sure it can be nice to kick back and indulge in the stupid antics and potty humor, but most of the time I find myself just going along for the ride and listening to boys being boys rather than joining in. Thanks to growing up with 2 older brothers though, I can hold my own fairly well in comic book superhero talk and video games.

I guess objectively, yes I am the token girl, but I don't really feel like it most of the time. My guy friends don't seem to change the way they act when I'm around. They don't try to be any nicer to me because I'm a girl or anything like that. Their manners certainly don't change. No topic of conversation seems to be off limits. But who knows, maybe they just don't know how to act around girls =P

In the end, it boils down to individuals and the dynamics between different people. But I do think I prefer being a girl. A girly girl who happens to enjoy doing stupid boy things with stupid boys. (For example: I'd rather use my energy shopping than playing ball, but there's no questions that I would rather spend my money and time playing rock band than watching seasons of sex and the city.)

Hootenanny

Holy crap, I never win anything! And I'm not sure if this was really a contest per se, but I am going to go to see Weezer and play some songs with them on Staurday!!!

107.7 is doing this thing called Hootenanny, where people come and bring whatever instruments in the world they play and we all gather and play some good ol' Weezer classics. Along with the band themself, of course. I am so freaking psyched! I've never done something like this before!

So I am allowed to bring a friend. Who has an instrument, loves Weezer, and wants to jam on Saturday night? I'm bringing my violin. Gotta start brushing up a bit.

Woooooooooooooooo! I'm so excited!!!

so much for summer...

...and I don't just mean the craptastic weather (which I guess is not going to get better anytime soon).

My 12 hour sleep (to make up for the last 3 days) was cut to a 7 hour sleep when I got a call from my future manager, saying that the intern kick-off meeting is going to be next Monday at 9am.

Next Monday?! Nooooooooooo!!! I had a full week of vegging planned! Needless to say I'm pretty bummed. I don't even have time to cram in fun things this week. Here's what it looks like:

Tonight: finish my entrepreneurship paper (haven't started yet)
Tomorrow: turn in said paper; make a visit to the Capitol Hill store where I'll be working
Thursday: meet this girl in Southcenter for a hopefully not shady camera purchase (yay for craigslist); browse around Southcenter, which I hear is not as ghetto anymore; work.
Friday: Mariners interleague! Adrian Beltre bobblehead night!
Saturday: money counting and sandwich making
Sunday: dad time

OK, so 2.5 fun things to do.

14 hour study day
2 hours of sleep
6:15am wake up call
1 double shot caramel macchiato
3 finals in 1 day

Now all I have left is a 15 page report due on Wednesday and I'm freeeeeeeeee!

For 11 days anyways. Then back to life as usual.

brand whores and haters

OK friends, it is no secret at all that I am a brand whore. I freely admit to it. I like nice things. I see no problem with spending more than $100 on a pair of shoes or $1000 for a fabulous bag. If you can afford it, why the heck not?

Now, I do not make this kind of money (yet), but I am very blessed to have parents who are willing to spend their hard-earned money on these luxuries, and I get to enjoy that. And yes, I suppose that does make me kind of spoiled... but I am never demanding. In fact, I don't even ask for most of the lovely things that I receive. I enjoy and appreciate everything I have, but I can live without it.

What I don't get, though, is these people who make snap judgments. They (most often guys for some reason. Maybe girls just appreciate these things more?) will take one look at the bag I'm carrying or the phone I have and just automatically assume that I'm this stuck up princess who only knows how to spends all of daddy's money.
One time I was leaving school to go home and this guy said "oh, are you gonna drive your Mercedes back to your $1 million mansion now?" Seriously, wtf? This guy barely even knew me. And for the record, I was on my way to the bus stop. I don't know where he comes off making these assumptions when I never said or did anything to justify them. It's not like I'm waving money in front of him going "haha, look what I have and you don't!"

Yes, I may have a designer bag on my shoulder, but that doesn't mean I think I'm better than anyone else or that I feel like that entitles me to anything. And if anything, the person who is making these rude comments is really the one who is being a snob. If you're going to hate on someone, then at least do it because of how they act, not because of what they have.
